Robert Bosch Company Overview
Bosch Diagnostics is a division of Bosch USA. Bosch USA in turn is part of the Bosch Group, one of the world’s largest private corporations. Bosch Diagnostics is a collection of brands that include the Vetronix automotive aftermarket test equipment brand.

Synopsis
Vetronix was formerly an independent company and operated its own web site and ERP system. When the company was integrated into the Bosch Diagnostics division, the Vetronix web catalog and commerce system needed to be integrated to a new ERP system.

The existing system was developed using IBM WebSphere and connected to a J.D. Edwards backend ERP. During the transition process, Vetronix needed to move all their IT servers from disparate systems to Microsoft Windows servers. This presented an extreme challenge as there were no people with knowledge of how the system was built or how to port the existing application.

The decision was made to re-platform the application from WebSphere to ASP.Net running on Microsoft Windows server. This would require all application functionality to be ported to the new system quickly. With only eight weeks and a one person development team budget, the project required extreme rapid application development (RAD) techniques to meet the budget and time constraints.

Solution
Triton-Tek was engaged to quickly build and implement a solution that could meet a tight budget and tighter timeframe for implementation.

Triton-Tek, using past product experience, recommended Microsoft Commerce Server 2007 because of its out-of-the-box sample site that could be quickly customized.

The solution was redeveloped without user interface changes to quickly adopt the new Windows based platform. With 2 weeks of data load and launch tasks, the development of the project was done using Microsoft’s Commerce starter site in 6 weeks.

The project included :

  • Loading data from flat files into the Product Catalog database.
  • Skinning the site to the Vetronix look and feel.
  • Implementing login security and profiles using ASP.Net/Commerce Server authentication, authorization, and profile providers.
  • Processing of order checkouts including credit card authorization.
  • Deployment of the solution for staging and production.

Results
Vetronix was able to meet their internal IT requirement needs while simultaneously not interrupting their customers using the web site and maintaining strict control of their operating costs.

The business group met their goals and provided for an expandable platform for extending their B2C e-Commerce solution as well and providing a platform to create B2B solutions.
